About the role

Overview

As the Maintenance & Facilities Intern for Lowes Foods, you are part of a team with broad responsibility for facility management of our grocery stores.  Both our Construction and Maintenance groups work hard to support our store teams, as they focus on our guests.  It is both exciting and challenging with new twists every day.   

 

Together, the intern team will work with our Construction and Maintenance teams to gain a high-level understanding of grocery operations, systems, and equipment.  They will work with Construction Project Managers and Maintenance Supervisors to improve processes and reporting.   

In addition, our team is always looking for ways to work smarter, faster, and more efficient; provide a recommendation for a cost saving initiative or identify a process efficiency. 

  • Refrigerated & Frozen space optimization. Identify opportunities to reduce square footage of backroom cooler / freezer space 
  • Analyze the breakdown of equipment within maintenance and provide a recommendation for either proactive replacement or additional warehouse inventory of key items to improve uptime. 

At the end of the experience, the team will have the opportunity to present their projects to Lowes Foods’ senior management team. 

Responsibilities

WHAT WILL THE INTERN LEARN/DO: 

  • Gain an understanding of our maintenance system and how work is prioritized, dispatched, worked, and invoiced.   
  • Assist with dispatching and maintenance planning.   
  • Capture workflow for work orders from store entry into Oracle, through dispatch, and completion of repair. 
  • Occasional ride-along with Maintenance Supervisors to gain exposure to in-store repairs on both refrigeration and general maintenance activities. 

 

Project expectations: 

  • Responsible for mapping our current process for maintenance work and identifying opportunities for improved utilization and communication within our work order system.  Evaluate existing performance reporting and provide recommendations to reduce WOs and/or improve the speed of repair.  Compare reporting to industry benchmarks and identify if additional KPI’s are needed. 
  • Choose and complete a project aimed at improving costs and/or process efficiency 

  

Qualifications

  • Interest in Engineering or Facility Maintenance 
  • Excellent writing and communication skills 
  • Microsoft Office:  Excel, Word, PowerPoint
