Maintenance Working Lead - Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Facility
What this job involves
The Maintenance Working Lead is a hands-on leadership position that directly participates in maintenance activities while overseeing operations within our pharmaceutical manufacturing facility. This role combines active technical work with team leadership responsibilities, ensuring equipment reliability, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence. As a working lead, you will both perform maintenance tasks and supervise a team of maintenance technicians in a fast-paced environment.
The Maintenance Working Lead plays a critical dual role—contributing directly to maintenance activities while simultaneously providing leadership and supervision to ensure our pharmaceutical manufacturing facility operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all regulatory requirements.
What is your day to day?
Working Technical Role
- Actively perform hands-on maintenance work as a primary function of the position
- Lead by example, demonstrating proper maintenance techniques and safety protocols
- Troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical, electrical, and automated systems personally
- Work alongside team members on challenging technical issues and emergency situations
- Provide direct technical expertise and immediate on-the-job training
Team Leadership and Management
- Supervise, train, and evaluate the performance of maintenance technicians while remaining a working member of the team
- Develop work schedules and assign tasks, including yourself in the rotation of duties
- Provide mentorship and guidance to team members through direct demonstration and coaching
- Conduct regular team meetings to discuss projects, safety concerns, and operational improvements
- Ensure adherence to company policies, procedures, and safety regulations
Maintenance Operations
- Balance personal maintenance workload with supervisory responsibilities
- Direct daily maintenance operations including scheduling, prioritizing work orders, and allocating resources effectively
- Oversee preventive maintenance programs for pharmaceutical equipment, building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and structural components
- Coordinate and prioritize reactive maintenance requests and emergency repairs
- Manage inventory of maintenance supplies, tools, spare parts and equipment to prevent production delays
- Develop and implement maintenance strategies to improve efficiency and reduce downtime
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of building automation systems
Project Management
- Plan and coordinate maintenance projects, including renovations and system upgrades
- Personally participate in critical project implementation phases
- Manage relationships with contractors and vendors for specialized maintenance services
- Monitor project progress and ensure timely completion within budget constraints
- Prepare reports on project status, maintenance activities, and key performance indicators
Safety and Compliance
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with FDA, cGMP, and other regulatory requirements
- Conduct regular safety inspections and implement corrective actions as needed
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and certifications in accordance with regulatory standards
- Develop and update standard operating procedures (SOPs) for maintenance tasks
- Lead safety training sessions and promote a safety-first culture within the maintenance team
- Participate in validation activities for new or modified equipment
Work Environment
- Must be able to work in a pharmaceutical manufacturing environment with occasional exposure to noise, heat, and chemicals
- May require working in cleanroom environments following appropriate gowning and contamination control procedures
- Position requires standing, walking, and performing physical maintenance
