Production Manager, GrovePay Details:
The annual base salary range for this position in California is $100,000 to $120,000 per year. The starting pay for the successful candidate depends on various job-related factors, including but not limited to the candidate’s geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, education/training, internal value, peer equity, external market demands, and organizational considerations.The Production Manager is responsible for the successful technical and logistical execution of performances and events. This position oversees all aspects of production, including audio, video, lighting, PA systems, rigging, stage management, and labor coordination. The Production Manager ensures that all shows and events—from load-in to load-out—run smoothly, safely, and professionally, meeting the expectations of artists, clients, and patrons.
This role requires a hands-on leader who can work collaboratively with stage crews, visiting production teams, artistic staff, and venue management to deliver exceptional concert and event experiences.
Responsibilities
Lead and oversee all technical production aspects of events, including sound, lighting, video, rigging, and stage management
Serve as the primary point of contact for touring productions, artists’ technical staff, and rental clients regarding production needs and capabilities
Coordinate and supervise stagehands and union or freelance crews during load-in, setup, rehearsals, performances, and load-out
Review technical riders and production advances to assess feasibility and resource needs
Manage and maintain audio, video, lighting, and rigging equipment; coordinate rentals as needed
Ensure safe use of all equipment and adherence to safety protocols and venue policies
Create detailed production schedules and ensure all technical and labor requirements are fulfilled
Collaborate with internal departments (Operations, Facilities, Programming, etc.) to support seamless event execution
Identify and resolve technical and logistical challenges efficiently and professionally
Track production budgets, labor costs, and equipment maintenance expenses
Provide on-site production supervision during events and troubleshoot in real-time
Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Technical Theater, Production Management, or related field preferred; equivalent professional experience accepted
5+ years of experience in production management within a performing arts center, concert hall, live music venue, or equivalent setting
Experience managing union and non-union crews, including knowledge of labor contracts and call times
Proven experience coordinating complex technical productions with multiple stakeholders
Strong knowledge of professional-grade audio, video, lighting, and rigging systems
Understanding of stagecraft, power distribution, and backstage operations
Familiarity with safety standards and compliance, including OSHA and fire codes
Knowledge of concert and performing arts production workflows and artist expectations
Excellent project management and organizational skills
Strong interpersonal and leadership skills; able to manage teams under pressure
Effective written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with CAD, Vectorworks, or other drafting software is a plus
Skilled at budget tracking and cost estimation for production elements
Able to manage multiple events and production timelines simultaneously
