The Packaging Operator I is responsible for preparing, assembling, cleaning, inspecting, and packaging medical products in a controlled environment and other designated packaging areas. This role supports the production of high-quality medical devices through adherence to established quality standards, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities may include boxing and palletizing finished products and preparing products for release as non-sterile or sterile.
The Packaging Operator I works as part of a team environment and takes direction from team coordinators, leaders, supervisors, and managers to ensure production goals, quality standards, and customer requirements are met.
What You Will Be Doing
Assemble and Package Medical Products
Read and interpret product specifications, work instructions, and blueprints.
Verify components for correct count, quantity, and revision level.
Clean components in preparation for packaging.
Assemble products using processes such as bonding, winding, crimping, pressing, splitting, cutting, and similar manufacturing techniques.
Generate and apply labels to properly identify products and materials.
Operate packaging equipment and seal products using various heat-sealing machines and packaging materials including Tyvek, Mylar, PET, PEG, foil, non-sterile plastics, blister trays, pouches, and form-fill-seal systems.
Inspect products and packaging materials to ensure compliance with quality standards.
Box and package products for shipment to sterilization facilities.
Follow standard operating procedures and work instructions to maintain product quality and traceability.
Support Production Operations
Assist in training new or less experienced employees.
Partner with Quality and Materials teams to trim, sort, inspect, and rework components when required.
Support continuous improvement initiatives and maintain an organized work area.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Documentation and Compliance
Complete production records and documentation accurately and timely.
Utilize barcode scanning systems and perform production transactions where applicable.
Follow all requirements associated with the Smith+Nephew Quality Management System.
Comply with FDA regulations, Quality System Regulations (QSR), and applicable domestic and international standards.
Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and work instructions.

What Will You Need to Be Successful?
Education
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Vocational, technical education, or equivalent military experience preferred.
Experience
Previous clean room, manufacturing, or medical device packaging experience preferred.
Experience working in a regulated production environment is a plus.
Skills & Competencies
Ability to read and follow written procedures and work instructions.

Basic computer and documentation skills.
Ability to comply with all safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
Physical Demands
Ability to lift, move, and handle materials weighing up to 35 pounds.
Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the shift, depending on assignment.
Ability to sit for extended periods throughout the shift, depending on assignment.
Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm motions associated with assembly and packaging activities.
