Description
The Part-time Evidence & Crime Scene Technician works directly with CID, Patrol, and the public. Evidence Technician work includes being responsible for maintaining records for lost/found property, seized property, evidence, and when appropriate, the proper disposal of evidence. Crime Scene Technician work includes responding to crime scenes, properly processing crime scenes, and collecting all necessary evidence to lead to the proper conclusion of the case.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides good customer service to internal and external customers, maintains positive and effective working relationships with other city employees; in particular, with members of their worn team. Will have reliable attendance that is non-disruptive. Must be available to work after-hours, on weekends, and holidays as needed.
Examples of work include but will not be limited to:
- Prepare items for crime lab or health department submission including preparation of crime lab forms, packaging, mailing, and upkeep of results files for each.
- Transport and /or transfer items to the crime lab for appropriate testing.
- Check items in/out to detectives or officers for court purposes.
- Testify in court when subpoenaed to appear.
- Maintain the Arkansas Drug Take-Back bin, which includes collection, storage, sorting, and biannual disposal.
- Run firearms brought into evidence through E-trace per ATF standards.
- Assist with evidence room audit and inventories.
- Respond to major crime scenes such as homicides, sexual assaults, armed robbery, property crimes, death investigations, etc. and any other crime scenes at the discretion of a supervisor.
- Will assist in physically securing crimes scenes.
- Photograph, take measurements, sketch crime scenes, collect and process all evidence, and write detailed reports.
- Will be required to learn and operate technology applications capable of viewing, retrieving, and storing digital evidence.
- Download digital photographs and/or video evidence from crime lab scenes.
- Monitor and print results from the Arkansas State Crime Lab I-Results system.
- Communicate with prosecuting attorney’s office about upcoming court cases and lab analysis from crime lab.
- Attend and document findings of autopsies conducted at the State Medical Examiner’s Office.
- Satisfactorily complete all assigned trainings.
- Assist other agencies with crime scene processing when requested and approved by a supervisor.
- Must be available as assigned to respond to calls after-hours, on weekends, and holidays.
- Must remain composed and think clearly in unpleasant work environments due to varying degrees of injuries, decomposition and post-mortem procedural states of corpses.
- Assist with special events as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.

Requirements
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED and specialized training and/or applicable course work.
- Prior work performing the same or similar work.
- Will not have had any disciplinary action taken against them in the previous 24 months. (Exceptions possible when such are considered minor only at the discretion of the Chief of Police.)
CERTIFICATES, LICENSE, REGISTRATIONS:
- ACIC Level I and CIIS Certification, or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret simple instructions, correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in on-on-one and small group situations to customers and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measurement, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
REASONING ABILITY:
