Job Description:

Come join the team at Cornhusker State Industries (CSI)! We provide workforce training and development to nearly 500 incarcerated men and women. CSI is a financially self-supported program of the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS).

DUTIES:
Pickup and deliver furniture, laundry carts, and/or raw materials to a fixed or assigned schedule; assist and supervise the loading of truck, ensure that truck is loaded correctly; assist inmates in the assembly of Correctional Industries products in the warehouse or at the delivery site; responsible for performing pre-trip vehicle checks, safety checks and inspections on a daily basis; maintain fluid levels and minor repairs; work with and supervise inmates as needed at warehouse and in public; occasionally required to assist in lifting/ moving heavy objects in excess of 100 lbs; ability to read product assembly and installation blueprints and layouts; install CSI products with or without assistance.


 

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: At least 18 years of age, high school education or equivalent, a valid driver's license and must be able to legally possess a firearm and ammunition.

Preferred Qualifications: Equipment maintenance experience. Minimum of two years of experience in loading and driving light or medium sized trucks. Experience in moving and assembling furniture.

Other: Must have a valid Class B CDL or the ability to obtain one within 90 days after completion of the Corrections Training Program.* Basic computer knowledge. Some overtime and overnight stays required. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Corrections Training Program.

*FMCSA Clearinghouse Registration Notice to Applicants: The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has created the Commercial Driver’s License Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse (Clearinghouse). The Clearinghouse is a secure, online database that contains real-time information about CDL drivers with drug or alcohol program violations in accordance with 49 CFR Part 382. It is effective as of January 6, 2020. Prior to hiring an individual to perform safety sensitive duties, NDCS is required to conduct a full query of the individual to check whether the Clearinghouse contains any information prohibiting the individual from performing safety sensitive duties. An individual must provide consent for the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services to perform a full query. An individual may only provide consent through the Clearinghouse.
