Job Description
AECOM’s Chicago Buildings + Places team is seeking a talented and motivated Junior Interior Designer to support the design and execution of interior design projects across multiple typologies. This role is strongly design-focused, requiring a high level of creativity, technical proficiency, and organizational rigor. The ideal candidate is comfortable working independently on assigned tasks while also contributing effectively within collaborative, multidisciplinary teams. This role is a hybrid position located in Chicago, IL.

About the Chicago Buildings + Places Team
Our practice is one of the fastest growing and highest-performing B+P practices in AECOM’s West Region. We offer a full suite of services: architecture, interiors, building systems and structural engineering, urbanism and planning (including landscape), workplace transformation, advisory services, technology solutions, and digital delivery - and serve as a Center of Excellence for many of these disciplines.
We work in a collaborative model across the West Region with other B+P practices, as well as with AECOM’s Transportation, Water, Environment and Advisory business lines to support vertical infrastructure and comprehensive solutions. Our Chicago-led client base is global and includes Public Non-Federal, Cultural + Civic, Commercial, Science & Technology, Transit, and Federal clients. What You’ll Do
The Interior Designer will work closely with Senior Design and Project Management staff across multiple projects and phases simultaneously, from early programming and concept design through documentation and project execution. The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a team, coupled with strong communication skills and a commitment to delivering high‑quality work as part of a multidisciplinary team, is essential for success.
Responsibilities include but not limited to:
Contribute meaningfully to programming & visioning, concept design, space planning, and design development across a range of project types.
Research and source materials, finishes, and furnishings that align with the design vision and project budget.
Assist in developing design narratives, mood boards, material palettes, FF&E selections, and finish concepts.
Produce high-quality design drawings, diagrams, and presentation materials that clearly communicate design intent.
Support senior team members during client presentations and design reviews.
Prepare and maintain detailed design drawings, specifications, and construction documents using software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or similar tools.
