Summary:
The Lead Technician is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining tractor-trailers and other fleet vehicles to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. In addition to performing advanced mechanical work, this role provides technical guidance and support to other technicians, helps coordinate daily shop activities, and ensures compliance with all safety and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate has strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, deep knowledge of diesel systems, and the ability to lead by example in a fast-paced maintenance environment.
Essential Functions:
- Perform complex diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on tractor-trailers and fleet vehicles, including engines, transmissions, brakes, suspensions, and electrical systems.
- Lead and assist technicians with troubleshooting and repair work, ensuring tasks are completed accurately and efficiently.
- Conduct and oversee preventive maintenance inspections to ensure vehicle safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
- Execute annual vehicle inspections in accordance with CFR 49, Part 396 and ensure documentation meets federal standards.
- Review work orders for quality and completeness; ensure maintenance records are accurate and up to date.
- Coordinate daily workflow and priorities with the Maintenance Supervisor to maintain productivity and minimize downtime.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area; model adherence to OSHA and company safety procedures.
- Follow attendance and punctuality standards, recording all time worked according to company policy.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Experience
- 2+ years verifiable experience in a repair facility or a 2-year degree from an accredited school and one year verifiable experience preferred.
- HS diploma, GED
