ER Communications Technician (PRN)

The Central Communications Center Technician manages a telephone console and ambulance radio in order to answer, screen, and collect pre-hospital calls to the Emergency Department in a courteous and professional manner. Is responsible for collecting pertinent information and disseminating to appropriate personnel for management of incoming pre-hospital patients.
1. Internal and External communications
a. Obtains pre-hospital information from ambulance to include presenting problem and condition report to include, but not limited to, vital signs and medications administered.
b. Promotes and maintains harmonious and effective relationships and communication with the department and between the department and other areas.
c. Interfaces with Emergency Medical Systems Regional System to determine capacity/capability of OLOLRMC and other hospitals within our region.
d. As directed, assists with the collection of syndromic surveillance data to assist Infection Control and our Environmental Surveillance Program.
2. Administrative Tasks
a. Follows established guidelines / telephone protocols and signals appropriate alerts (i.e. Trauma, Heart Alert, Stroke Alert at the direction of the ED physician and/or ED nursing staff based on established criteria) in order to ensure timely and efficient responses to emergency situations. Exercises judgment in prioritizing calls, and courteously directs calls to appropriate personnel in a prudent and efficient manner.
b. Efficiently maintains pre-hospital call database while ensuring all information is accurate. Performs data entry for programs such as Trauma Specialty Program as indicated.
c. Observes and adheres to all departmental and hospital policies and procedures and follows all safety, quality assurance, and infection control standards.
3. Other duties as assigned
a. Performs other duties as assigned or directed.
Experience:
Two years in emergency medical practice or comparable experience in pre-hospital or emergency department setting.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent, plus successful completion of EMT Basic program, Paramedic program, or graduate of LPN program.
Training:
Specialized training as Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic education, or graduate of LPN program.
