Purpose
Provide comprehensive lifecycle support to faculty members, principal investigators, and other University research staff in the preparation, submission and award management of research-related proposals to sponsoring agencies and organizations.
Responsibilities
Proposal Submission:
- Review sponsor guidelines to ensure eligibility for submission and compliance of proposal documents, development of appropriate budgets for proposals, generation of templates and content information for peripheral administrative documents, liaison between the PI, the Office of Sponsored Projects and the sponsor regarding Institutional policies and sponsor guidelines to coordinate proposal submissions.
- Assist with sponsor requests for additional information such as JIT requests, review of PI support documents for compliance, and documentation of adherence to Institutional, Federal and State requirements for the performance of research.
Award Management:
- Coordinate with appropriate team in the Office of Sponsored Projects to review and provide all necessary documents in support of the award.
- Assist with verification of compliance information; review and revise budgets as needed, review terms and conditions for each award.
- Assist faculty with budget management within financial terms and conditions and to ensure compliance with internal and external policies and procedures including Institutional, sponsor-specific and the Uniform Guidance, 2 CFR 200. Assist with monthly account updates, and fiscal reporting according to sponsor guidelines.
- Coordinate with MBS Administrative team regarding fiscal guidelines and funds transfers for purchases, payments and personnel appointments. Assist faculty with post-award modifications.
- Meet with faculty and their staff as needed to review accounts and provide guidance on fiscal expenditures (financial forecasting) using appropriate internal and external tools and data as needed.
Other duties as needed.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Technical/Scientific or other relevant field and five years of experience in research administration or a related field. Exceptional organizational skills, including time management and managing multiple deadlines. High level verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively communicate policies and procedures to a broad audience. Able to work independently and within the rest of the MBS team. Ability to be discreet with confidential matters and to use sound judgment to facilitate independent decisions. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word programs. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred Qualifications
Certified Research Administrator (CRA) certification. Familiarity with university policies, procedures and electronic systems including, Huron based UT Research Management System, FRMS, and DEFINE.
