Job Description:

This is a fast paced, highly visible position which requires technical knowledge of all facets of plumbing systems and related fixtures and components. The area of responsibility assigned to this position includes more than 150 major buildings, including multi-story critical research facilities, spread over several hundred acres and encompassing more than 8,500,000 square feet of floor space. 

Job Duties:

50%- Performs work from work orders, verbal instructions, hand written notes, plans and specifications to install new and/or modify existing plumbing/pipe systems. Works alone or with other assigned personnel to include contractors on deferred maintenance, title 38, and emergency repair projects to ensure quality of craftsmanship, safety of building occupants, and ensure utility outages have the minimal effect on building occupants. 

40%- Performs troubleshooting, repairs, installations, modifications and inspects steam, gas, water, storm drains, acid waste, sanitary sewer, compressed gases, heating water, chill water, water heaters, boilers, fain, coils, control valves, air handlers, and lab equipment. This to include all related piping, valves, fittings, and plumbing fixtures. 

5%- Performs multi-trade skills, such as insulation, welding, carpentry, painting and cleaning to complete assignments as required. 

5%- Performs administrative duties such as preparing time reports and purchasing materials. Other duties as assigned. 

Minimum Qualifications:

Two years of experience in pipefitting, steamfitting, or plumbing.
 
SUBSTITUTIONS:
Training in the plumbing, pipefitting, or steamfitting trade will substitute for the required experience on a month for month basis.

Special or Physical Qualifications:

Due to the nature of this position and/or position responsibilities this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67. 
In accordance with University Policy Statement 18, this position is considered essential and may be required to report or stay on campus in the event of an emergency or closure. 
Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds, climb stairs, stoop, squat, kneel and bend their back, climb ladders, and work reaching overhead. Due to the position's physical requirements, a pre-employment physical examination will be required per FASOP: HR-04.
