Job Description

Project: Water Enterprise Capital Improvement Program (WECIP) and Hetch Hetchy Capital Improvement Program (HHCIP) Dam Projects.

The Project Manager II (PM II) is responsible for managing and implementing several dam projects in the Regional Water system of the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC). These projects are part of the SFPUC Capital Improvement Program (CIP) funded by the 10-year Water Enterprise Capital Improvement Program (WECIP) and Hetch Hetchy Capital Improvement Program (HHCIP).  The projects include retrofitting the existing San Andreas and Pilarcitos Dams in the Peninsula, and Cherry Dam Spillway in Hetch Hetchy.  These projects are intended to improve the condition of the dam facilities to meet safety requirements of the California Department of Water Resource, Division of Safety of Dam and to improve the operation, reliability and security of the water system and facilities.

Under general administrative direction of the Project Manager IV/III, the PM II will plan, organize, direct and control complex engineering projects from concept through design and construction to closeout.  The projects will include working closely with regulatory agencies such as California Department of Water Resources, Division of Safety of Dams, Regional Water Quality Control Board, United States Army Corps of Engineers, and the operations and maintenance staff at Hetch Hetchy Water and Power, Water Supply and Treatment Division, Water Quality Division, Natural Resources and Land Management Department, and Hydrology and Water Systems.  The PM II will also interact with the Bay Area Water Supply and Conservation Association, Bond Oversight Committee, Board of Supervisors, and other staff at SFPUC.

Essential Functions:

The PM II will be responsible for preparing and monitoring the project budget, including occasionally obtaining funding; overseeing the completion of conceptual design; overseeing planning activities; coordinating work of a multi-disciplinary technical staff across organizational boundaries; working with consultants, private contractors, special interest groups, governmental funding and regulatory agencies, and City and County departments; coordinating CEQA processes and/or obtaining permits; controlling project cost and schedule; reviewing change orders; serving as primary contact for all parties involved in the project.

Class 5504 performs other related duties as required.
