Job Description

Position Summary
The Network Administrator is assigned responsibilities involving the administration and direction of a data or voice information technology program and related systems. This may include direction of a voice network, wireless network, data network, server technologies for state Information technology services.
Responsibilities
- Plans, develops, and implements wireless, telephone, data or other telecommunications or information technology programs and networks for the state.
- Performs professional and technical work in providing data and/or voice network services for the state; establishes and maintains networks and systems; performs preventive maintenance; evaluates systems performance, responds to malfunctions and operating problems, and identifies and resolves causes.
- Installs, tests, and modifies data networks, voice networks, wireless networks, Routers, Firewalls and other communication components; coordinates and performs systems tests; adjusts, calibrates and modifies equipment or components to conform to specifications, implement engineering or software changes or enhance systems performance.
- Confers with agency users, representatives of other agencies and political subdivisions and others to determine requirements for wireless, voice, data, and other telecommunications services; coordinates requirements with technical staff, contractors, vendors, or others as needed to develop a plan of approach and provide for implementation of required tasks and activities.
- Manages/administers public safety network and ensures security compliance with State and Federal requirements.
- Mentors, leads and supervises the infrastructure team and monitors the network projects are completed, and services are delivered on time and on budget.
- Research network technologies and recommends technical solutions that can add efficiency and monitor performance.
- Plans and participates in developing IT budgets as needed in support of the agency services.
- Cross trains IT staff to create depth in support of IT services.
- Other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position works in a comfortable office setting with a computer for a large percentage of the workday. The noise level in the work environment is usually mild. This position requires the ability to bend, crouch, stoop, sit and/or lift objects weighing 50 pounds or more. The position uses manual equipment, including dollies and carts. Some extended hours including evening and weekends may be required. Occasional travel may be required.
Minimum Qualifications
Requirements include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field and at least two (2) years of Network experience; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
