Job Description
About KIPP NYC:
The Student Recruitment & Enrollment Associate will support the execution of all efforts that drive KIPP NYC’s student enrollment goals. In partnership with our Student Recruitment & Enrollment team, as well as our school-based Operations Teams, the Student Recruitment & Enrollment Associate will provide families with information about KIPP NYC, as well as support them through the application and enrollment process. Whether connecting with prospective families, building/cultivating relationships with organizations, or supporting our school operations teams, the candidate will play a pivotal role in accomplishing our mission. The right candidate will embrace continuous learning and innovation and relish the challenge of finding ways to work smarter and more efficiently. They will also have a passion for the mission of KIPP NYC to create joyful, academically excellent schools that prepare students to lead fulfilling lives and build a more just world. This role will report directly to the Associate Director of Student Recruitment & Enrollment to fill open student seats and build a robust waitlist.
This position requires frequent travel to areas surrounding KIPP NYC schools in the Bronx, Brooklyn, Harlem, and Washington Heights.
General Duties and Responsibilities (but not limited to):
- Craft and execute plans to connect with prospective families in our school’s communities
- Effectively communicate the mission of KIPP NYC as the “face” of KIPP NYC
- Establish strong relationships and credibility with prospective families from diverse backgrounds
- Build and sustain partnerships with community-based organizations
- Drive applications by flyering local businesses, tabling and canvassing in high traffic locations and community events
- Increase regional enrollment by supporting families in the registration process
- Administrative support in recording contact information and data about prospective families, including phone calls to new and prospective families and regular reporting to the External Affairs Team
- Assist KIPP NYC school staff to successfully execute family-facing events
- Assist in coordinating the new student lottery in compliance with State law
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor's degree preferred
- Minimum of 2 years experience in a student recruitment, admissions, or community organization setting
- Creative thinker with an ability to quickly implement thoughtful solutions in a fast-paced environment
- Bilingual Spanish a plus
- A passion for and commitment to being part of a team-oriented, mission-driven organizational culture
- Informed on community events or the education landscape of New York City and/or their respective neighborhood
- Able to stand or walk for 2-3 hours at a time and carry 10-20 pounds as needed (i.e. recruitment materials, etc.)
- Ability to work anywhere in the Bronx, Manhattan, and/or Brooklyn
- A passion for or understanding of KIPP’s mission to provide an excellent education to all students and belief in the power of families
- Able to navigate difficult conversations with families and demonstrate empathy and/or discretion around sensitive information
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
- Comfortable using technology, including a laptop and cell phone, and able to learn new programs quickly
- Ability to work in a team as well as follow through independently on required tasks
- Ability to shift priorities, multi-task and prioritize with a high volume of matters
- Meticulous attention to detail with an ability to produce high quality work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
