JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  The Research Lab Manager 1 coordinates the daily operations of the lab, implements research experiments and research projects, as well as maintains records. This position consults with researchers and trains researchers on the proper use of specialized lab equipment and resources and services provided.

  1. Manages lab inventory and collaborates with administration to place orders.
  2. Review purchases, invoices, and packing slips to ensure proper record keeping with administrative staff and PI.
  3. Manages and trains undergraduate researchers and technicians in the lab.
  4. Oversees safety and security of laboratory personnel by maintaining knowledge of relevant protocols, regulations, standards, and safety procedures. 
  5. Assists with projects in the lab involving the planning of project studies, maintenance of Excel sheets, mouse handling, cell culture, or other necessary software or techniques.
  6. Provides technical support for laboratory equipment, supplies, and data analysis tools.
  7. Conducts cell culture experiments and/or mouse experiments; grows and maintains an inventory of cells for the study; collects and analyzes data for accuracy, validity, and integrity. 
  8. Assists with murine experiments, colony management including forms, maintaining food, and schedule arrangements for the animal room experiments.
  9. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the latest techniques and biological approaches. 
  10. Manages and organizes the lab meeting schedule. 
  11. Write and edit research papers and present oral presentations of research and data. 
  12. Perform other duties as required. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: 

EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Immunology, Cancer Cell Biology, Biology, or a related field. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) 

EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of experience working with mice and cell culture or related experience; OR a combination of education and experience to equal five (5) years. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Extensive knowledge of ordering systems with higher educational institutions.
  • Skill in handling mice and cell culture.
  • Ability to manage volunteers, undergraduates, and train new employees on the lab equipment.
