JOB SUMMARY:
The Production Automation Operator will be responsible for assisting in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting automated systems to ensure optimal performance and efficiency in support of production. This is a production support role. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in automation technology and a passion for innovation and problem-solving. This position will work in collaboration with the structural foam process technicians, starting, stopping and troubleshooting the integrated automation system. A strong sense of teamwork is necessary for one to be successful in this position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Will work with the commissioning of automation equipment and the team on systems, including PLCs, HMI’s, sensors, actuators, and robotic systems.
- Start-up, shut down and troubleshooting of automation lines/integrated systems.
- Changeover of tooling/fixturing etc. during product model/product family changes.
- Conduct routine maintenance and inspections of automation equipment to identify and address potential issues before they cause downtime. Report findings (that may indicate that machine is not functioning to its original scope of work) to maintenance, engineering and /or to production supervisor.
- Responsible for 5’S (housekeeping) and first level PM’S for the automation lines.
- Troubleshoot and where possible, correct the issues with automation systems and components to diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and software-related problems.
- Collaborate with engineers, production personnel, and other stakeholders to implement and maintain automation solutions that improve efficiency, quality, and safety.
- Keep accurate records of production reporting, downtime, maintenance, equipment performance, and system modifications.
- Adhere to safety protocols and regulations while working with automation equipment and installations.
- Responsible for filling out / reporting daily production records and recording of downtime etc. on provided sheets or electronic forms.
- Inspect machines hourly in the assigned working area to ensure production of good quality parts to prevent mass production of defective or unacceptable parts (scrap)
- Entry level robot programing (position touch-up etc.) may be required.
- Communicate with on-coming team members concerning shift performance and scrap
- May serve/function in break-relief capacity (production operators/other) from time to time
- May assist with MSK and/or Robo-saw duties additionally
- Position reports directly to the shift production supervisor and ultimately to Plastics Operations Manager, with dotted line responsibility to automation and process engineering groups.

- Must understand and follow all departmental safety rules
- Understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
- ISO sections for the position
