About the team and position

Are you excited to work closely with business leaders to develop strategies that will take our business to the next level? The Associate Director of Marketplaces Operations Strategy will drive initiatives and programs to tackle the most pressing operations challenges and opportunities in our Marketplaces organization. A successful candidate will bring strong business judgment, critical thinking, analytical rigor, and managerial aptitude to operations execution and decision making. 

Strong candidates will lead a team that will fuel the growth and efficiency of Carvana’s auto auction subsidiary, ADESA, by leveraging analytics and driving operational changes across 56 different locations. The candidate will also take on an pivotal role in integrating ADESA locations into the broader Carvana blueprint and launching retail reconditioning capabilities in strategic locations nationwide. Your work will enhance speed, cost, and quality by analyzing data, preparing frameworks and collaborating with cross-functional business partners to drive operating strategy and decision making. This includes the ability to connect the dots, see interrelations and impacts between complex systems, and clearly communicate recommendations, available options, and implications.

The individual coming into this role would have experience working alongside senior leadership and the chance to make a significant impact in a short amount of time. 

 

What you’ll be doing

  • Identify opportunities for operational improvement in areas such as inspections, physical auction, and Carvana integration by developing strategy and analytics to drive people, process, and technology enhancements. 
  • Work cross-functionally with internal business partners to align priorities and develop strategic plans & initiatives. 
  • Oversee and conduct rigorous analytics to assess performance, size opportunities, and assess the impact of key initiatives.
  • Partner with Product and Analytics teams to develop and design a plan and work with operations to gain user adoption, execute the plan, and assess the impact of key initiatives.
  • Build programs to regularly review analytics to drive operational improvements
  • Build models, perform a cost-benefit analysis, and provide thoughtful well-researched recommendations that answer key business questions.
  • Help plan change communication and participate in organizational change management.
  • Mentor and develop a team of strategy managers.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 

What you should have

  • At least 7 years of work experience in analytical, consulting, technology, startup, banking, strategy, or other client-facing roles.
  • At least 3 years of experience leading a team of consultants, managers, or analysts.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a top-tier institution with a strong academic record in business, operations, statistics, analytics, or related field.
  • MBA or Master’s Degree equivalent preferred.
  • Firm understanding of continuous improvement techniques and experience in executing them.
  • Proven track record of incremental and breakthrough improvements.
  • Excellent ability to collaborate and apply a cross-functional mindset.
