Educational Support Staff

Wage band range $18.00 - $25.00 per hour however, starting pay is ultimately determined by the scope of the position, the candidate's relevant experience, and internal equity. 

Under the guidance of the Camino Classroom Educator, the Educational Support Staff is responsible for supporting the overall operation of the Camino classroom and of teaching secondary school subjects in the Camino a Casa classrooms and to educate students with severe learning and behavioral problems. The Education Support Staff carries out the mission of Casa Pacifica as it relates to the educational component of the individual treatment program of the student.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (illustrated by typical activities):

• Supports, protects and cares for students individually and in groups.
• Provides assistance to the classroom educator and each student working in a group and in handling individual problems. 
• Administers discipline and sets limits for behavior as necessary. 
• Will plan curriculum and prepare lessons and other instructional materials to meet individual need of students, considering state and school requirements, physical, emotional, and educational levels of development.
• Provides individualized and group instruction which meets the standards of the School and takes into account the specialized needs of the student.
• Maintains an appropriate physical, mental, emotional and educational environment in order to facilitate the student’s education, social and emotional growth and wellbeing.
• Will confer with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social worker(s), and others to develop individual educational program for students.
• Instructs students in all academic subjects and participate in programing. 
• Develops learning materials geared to each student's ability and interest.
• Works with students to increase motivation, provide consistent reinforcement to learning, and continuous feedback to student for all learning activities.
• Provides direct supervision of students.
• Teaches youth social skills, management skills, personal competence, individual responsibility and self-esteem; provides positive experiences.
• Teaches clients to respect Casa Pacifica property.
• Provides additional services and assistance as necessary.
• Attends and participates in general staff training programs.
• Maintains confidentiality in all matters within the organization with respect to personnel, operations and clients.
• May perform other duties and projects as assigned from time to time.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree preferred, with a minimum of 2 years’ experience and /or training with severely emotionally disturbed students; experience in academic testing or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Ability to use various types of computer software. Bilingual in Spanish preferred. Knowledge of Title 22, Division 6 licensing requirements.  Strong organizational, communication and leadership skills
