POSITION TITLE: Education and Outreach Presenter
PROGRAM/LOCATION: TMHA High School Program and Community Outreach/ San Luis Obispo
POSITION SUMMARY:
TMHA’s High School Program began in 2017, and has presented customized mental health curriculums to over 1,500 students each year. The primary curriculum, Mental Health 101, provides each student with mental health awareness, self-care options, and the ability to recognize when peers are in distress. This curriculum is presented in freshman Health classes at each participating High School, and has been modified for Middle School students as well. The curriculum is paired with engaging activities to help students understand content. In recent years, the program has expanded to include lesson plans and on-campus peer support groups.
TMHA’s Outreach activities include participation in community health fairs, local events like Pride in the Plaza, and presentations to small groups. TMHA also hosts community events on a regular basis, most notably Journey of Hope and the Opening Minds Art Show.
Each Education & Outreach Presenter will work directly with the Education & Outreach Coordinator to learn and implement information about TMHA’s services for community presentations, and learn and implement the Mental Health 101 curriculum for the High School Program to provide trauma informed care to students.
This position promotes the TMHA mission and mental health education in the community, and works with the Education & Outreach Coordinator and the Community Engagement Team to promote special events and educational campaigns. In all areas of work, each Education & Outreach Presenter will uphold the program philosophy, promoting recovery, wellness, and Trauma-Informed Care.
This is a Part-Time position, with duties dictated by community opportunities and school-based assignments throughout the year. Each Education & Outreach Presenter will receive assignments and schedule from the Education & Outreach Coordinator and will frequently work in team settings, either co-presenting or alternating class periods.
HOURS/ SALARY:
Part-Time, non-exempt position. 20 hours per week. Anticipated hiring range is $22.00-$23.00. Includes a generous individual benefits package that includes critical illness benefits, accident benefits, 403b retirement (with up to a 5% employer match) paid sick time and a variety of helpful employee perks as well. (*Full Salary Schedule $22.00-$24.72 per hour).

RESPONSIBILITIES and DUTIES:
High School Program:
1. Under the supervision of the Education & Outreach Coordinator, become fluent in TMHA’s Mental Health 101 curriculum and its full audio/visual presentation.
2. Deliver educational presentations in classrooms throughout San Luis Obispo County, including High Schools, Middle Schools, and local colleges.
3. Deliver tailored presentations to outside agencies, faith-based groups, and community forums.
