Senior Formulating Chemist

The Formulary Chemist will participate in new product development and develop chemical testing procedures required to review and maintain quality control, assurance of existing products, and compliance with internal and regulatory requirements. 

Duties/Responsibilities

• Researches, creates, develops, and tests compounds and formulas used in products, exercising professional judgment in evaluating, selecting, and modifying applied methods and techniques.
• Identifies and recommends improvements to maintain quality, cost-effectiveness, safety compliance, and other parameters.
• Drafts and distributes laboratory reports detailing results of testing and analysis.
• Maintains documentation for each project assignment; reviews reports written by subordinate staff for accuracy and compliance with professional standards.
• Collaborates with management and other departments.
• Recommends, operates, maintains, and tests laboratory equipment; identifies problems when equipment fails and conducts or recommends repairs. 
• Drafts standard operating procedures and safety materials.
• Assists with environmental health and safety standards, including handling, storing, and disposing of chemical agents.
• Maintains knowledge of federal, state, local, and organizational best practices and environmental health and safety regulations.

Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related field is required; a Master’s degree would be a plus
• At least three years of related work experience as a formulary chemist
• Excellent mathematical skills
• Thorough understanding of chemical tests and processes
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software to draft laboratory reports
• Strong communication skills and ability to interface with sales staff and customers

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Prolonged periods of standing while working in the lab
• Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
• Exposure to various chemicals and compounds
