About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer that will report into the Research and Systems Engineering organization for Foundational Hosting Platform (FHP). Within this role the engineer will be responsible for establishing and overseeing assured delivery of key technology roadmaps developed in partnership with enterprise architecture. Technology areas include distributed compute and storage, mainframe, mid-range, database, automation, cross configuration engineering and solutions, and compliance assurance. This engineer will be responsible for communicating and interlocking with the broader CIO and development community to assure alignment.
In this role, you will:
- Collaborate and provide solution engineering designs across FHP teams on their engineering work, and helps their team members make informed decisions in alignment with individual and collective strategic plans.
- Exposes technology and organizational needs throughout FHP to the leadership team in structured ways for management within the backlog.
- Teach, mentor, grow, and provide advice to other domain experts, individual contributors, across all teams in Foundational Hosting Platform (FHP).
- Solves technical problems of the highest scope, complexity, and ambiguity for FHP.
- Looks for innovation opportunities between several teams with a willingness to experiment and to boldly confront problems of large complexity and scope.
- Works with various platform teams to drive adoption of tool-chain based automation with a view to infrastructure-as-code for all platforms.
- Ensures that OKR level goals are aligned across teams within FHP.
- Guides conversations to remove blockers and encourage collaboration across teams.
- Provides a point of escalation for sub-department teams facing complex technical challenges.
- Interact with customers and other external stakeholders as a consultant and spokesperson for the technology roadmaps of FHP.
- Proven technical knowledge of infrastructure in all key technology areas within FHP, and across the enterprise.
Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience in Distributed Compute, Storage and Database Hosting services (Virtualization, Cloud, Hybrid).
- 5+ years of experience in consulting on multiple enterprise-wide compute, storage and database transformation programs for the enterprise.
- Strong Engineering expertise in compute, storage and database connectivity, automation [i.e., Python, Ansible, Terraform] and cloud technologies (AWS/Azure/GCP) to drive the vision in alignment with the Technology Strategy and customer needs.
- Experience with taking software/hardware products and services from inception to customer delivery
- Strong knowledge, understanding and prior experiences with regulatory drivers impacting a complex and dynamic global technology environment.
- Experience implementing Infrastructure-as-a-Service through CI/CD pipeline automation.
- Experience with Agile processes and cloud service development
- Proven experience transforming infrastructure functions in a product model construct, which would include participation in product roadmap planning and feature/backlog prioritization.

Total Base Pay Range
- 144,400.00 - 300,000.00 USD Annual
