Position Summary

To assist Health Care Providers in preparing for and assisting in the care of patients in the Specialty Care clinic setting. The Center for Specialty Care is a fast paced and procedure based clinic.  The individual in this position must be organized, detailed,  possess strong communication skills, and be able to adapt to the ever changing needs of patients and providers.  


Essential Job Functions

  • Provide patient centered care through active listening, and patient involvement being respectful of and responsive to patient preferences, needs, and values.
  • Uses appropriate rooming protocols including but not limited to weights, vital signs, updating medication lists, immunizations records and past medical history.
  • Communicates effectively and constructively with other members of the interdisciplinary team to ensure efficient workflows.
  • Administers and documents medication administrations including injections, oral, inhaled and topical medications under the direction of the health care provider.
  • Performs clinical functions under the direction of the health care provider including but not limited to scrubbing and cleansing infected areas, applying bandages, dressing changes, performing ear irrigations, spirometry, tympanogram, removing sutures, administering nebulizers, assisting with casting, applying splints, and other duties as within the scope of the CMA role.
  • Assists with procedures including, but not limited to; suture lacerations, lesion excisions, routine gynecological exams, cryosurgery, urinary catheterization, and general physical exam procedures.
  • Answers patient phone calls, processes appropriate information and communicates with colleagues to ensure follow-through with patient needs including refill requests, notification of lab, x-ray and procedure results.
  • Assists inventory control, order supplies and keeps all equipment in working order.
  • Follows proper procedure/protocols and participates in annual competencies / performance improvement strategies.
  • Assists with quality assurance and process improvement initiatives.
  • Cleans and supplies exam rooms according to infection control guidelines in preparation for the patient care.
  • Maintains awareness of clerical and administrative tasks related to the financial requirements of the organization.
  • Assists in the Center for Behavioral Health as necessary in order to provide excellent patient care.
  • Other job duties and responsibilities as assigned to effectively meet the needs of the patients, the department, and the organization as a whole.

Education:

  • LPN - Graduate from an accredited Nursing program; Required
