A. POSITION PURPOSE

The Assistant Director for Marketing and Fan Engagement is responsible for gameday experience and promotion strategy and implementation to increase spirit and attendance for assigned programs. This position is primarily responsible for managing the marketing, promotions and game day experience for the Athletic Department assigned teams and spirit group and programs.

B. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.    Direct Gameday Promotions for Assigned Programs

  • Independently develop and lead the development and implementation of annual marketing and promotional plans for assigned sports.

  • Technical director and gameday producer for assigned sports.

  • Schedule and coordinate all pregame events including but not limited to National Anthem singer, honorary coach introductions, senior night. special honor/recognition ceremonies.

  • Schedule and coordinate all in-game entertainment including music, special events, giveaways, and interactive fan contests.

  • Responsible for writing the game day public address scripts that include game day timing protocol, corporate sponsor activations.

  • Collaborate with Media Relations, Creative Services, Ticketing and Development to develop and execute a cohesive strategy for assigned programs.

2.    Direct Assigned Spirit Group(s)

  • Management and recruitment of one or more the Santa Clara Spirit Groups: Pep Band, Dance Team, Mascot, Bucky’s Kids Club and/or the promotions team.

  • Independently implement the annual plan for assigned spirit group(s)

  • Liaison to coach/director of assigned spirit group(s)

  • Represent Santa Clara University at WCC meetings regarding spirit groups.

  • Be the on-site representative of the spirit groups at major events (WCC Championships, NCAA Championships).

3.    Campus and Community Promotion

  • Organize, manage and staff promotional and recruiting efforts of Santa Clara Athletics and assigned programs this may include but not exclusive to: Orientation, Welcome Weekend, Preview Day, Grand Reunion)

  • Oversee and manage promotional emails schedule and system.

  • Oversee and manage the Ruff Riders (student fan club) rewards app

  • Oversee and manage the display of promotional content on campus.

4.    Supervise, direct and train on-call employees.

  • Hire, train and schedule gameday student support staff.

  • Hire and manage gameday interns to support game production and student activations.

  • Encourage and motivate on-call employees to excel in their area of expertise.

5.    Liaison Responsibilities.

  • Serve as liaison to Office of Student Life, Student Programming (ASB, ASG and other student organizations. 

  • Serve as the Athletic Department’s liaison to the School of Communications to create partnership opportunities.

  • Manage the relationships between all third-party relationships related to marketing and fan engagement.

6.    Other Duties as Assigned

  • As a member of the administrative team in the Athletic Department, the Manager collaborates with coaches and senior staff to ensure a broad-based promotions and community outreach program.

  • Be aware of and abide by all NCAA and conference rules and regulations.


 

C.   PROVIDES WORK DIRECTION

  • Supervision and direction to SCU spirit groups.

  • Hiring, supervision, direction and feedback to student interns.

D.   GENERAL GUIDELINES

  • Recommends initiatives and implements changes to improve quality and services.

  • Identifies and determines cause of problems; develops and presents recommendations for    improvement of established processes and practices.

  • Maintains contact with customers and solicits feedback for improved services.

  • Maximizes productivity through use of appropriate tools; planned training and performance initiatives.

  • Researches and develops resources that create timely and efficient workflow.
