The Role
You will provide comprehensive engineering, commissioning, and start-up support for our distributed generation and storage projects. This includes factory acceptance testing of natural gas generators and deploying on-site microgrid controllers and network devices to communicate, configure, and control distributed energy resources and microgrid assets – such as solar, energy storage, switchgear, and reciprocating engines.
The role is ideally based in the NJ Tri-State area (NY/NJ/CT) or California. The role requires a significant amount of travel for up to 10 days at a time in the US..

Key responsibilities will include:
Factory Testing in Green Bay, WI:
- Lead the factory testing of our natural gas generator equipment, with the assistance of a Sr. Controls Engineer from the corporate office
- Configure and download all ComAp, PLC, and controls software required to start up and run units
- Connect laptop on-site for monitoring and storing test run data
- Conduct tests of units at various loads and compare them to OEM factory test sheets to ensure similar results
- Conduct sound and emissions tests
- Ensure all communications are functional for monitoring the system
- Ensure all sensors for data transducers are functional and calibrated
- Inspect equipment for proper installation by contractors
System Site Testing across the US:
- Instruct customers and others on the operation and maintenance of equipment as needed
- Support project teams with start-up, commission, service, and repair of customer equipment
- Ability to troubleshoot network configuration issues, firewalls, and connectivity to the cloud
- Perform testing, calibration, checking, correcting, adjusting, and part component replacement services on customer products
- Deploy PLC and microgrid control applications on local controllers and validate the sequence of operation and telemetry
- Troubleshoot microgrid control panel and generator control panel issues by reading electrical schematics and control logic
- Construct and test circuits and equipment
- Analyze complex problems in equipment and machinery and interpret maintenance manuals, using knowledge of systems and electronics to isolate and correct the fault
- Consult with product support and product engineering personnel to determine solutions to complex problems in system operation
- Develop and implement workaround modifications as needed
- Develop and maintain ongoing customer relationships concerning all aspects of equipment operation, repair, and maintenance
The Ideal Candidate
- Two-year degree or technical certification in an electrical-related program and/or 5+ years of work experience as a shop or field electrical technician.
- Exhibit knowledge of control circuits and PLCs, gas engine controls, switchgear controls, generator installation, solar inverters, and batteries, and a willingness to learn from others as needed.
- Understanding of specific standards included in the EGSA certification.
- Demonstrate knowledge of basic distribution protective relay testing, breaker function testing, and generator testing.
- Willing and able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Prepared to travel approximately 50% of the time.
