About the Role

Get your hands on actual projects, and at the same time, prepare for a truly awesome career in aerospace and defense. Our early career engineers have the unique experience of getting both mentoring and coaching while working side by side with recognized industry experts on real-world assignments directly related to their field of study. Bring your knowledge and desire to learn, and we will provide the experience.

The Summer program is typically 10-12 weeks starting in late May/early June and work an average of 40 hours a week. Depending on satisfactory completion of certain criteria during the program, you may be considered for a full-time position upon graduation. You'll ask questions, get involved, bring your ideas, be part of an actual project team, attend planning meetings, complete assignments as tasked by your team, absorb and learn from your team and apply that learning to projects assigned.

You'll have the opportunity to learn fundamental business processes and procedures, build your technical foundation through practice and mentorship, and participate in an in-depth program built by our University Recruiting team, that includes cross-functional workshops and meeting with leadership to gain understanding of the business and Sierra Space culture.

Key Responsibilities:

Note: Specific responsibilities will vary based on specific program assignment, but in general, the will be responsible for:  

  • Assisting in the analysis of system requirements and specifications to ensure they meet project goals 

  • Supporting the development and maintenance of system documentation, including requirements, system architecture, analysis, and test plans. 

  • Utilizing modeling and simulation tools to analyze system performance and behavior to meet program requirements and capabilities 

  • Supporting integration of system components to define and mature system interfaces 

  • Participating in testing activities to verify and validate system requirements and also assisting in troubleshooting any issues that arise 

  • Working closely with cross-functional teams, including design, test, and SW engineers, and program management teams, to facilitate communication and collaboration 

  • Conducting and supporting research on new technologies or methodologies to improve system performance and development processes 

  • Preparing reports and presentations to communicate findings, progress, and recommendations to the team 

  • Engaging in training sessions to understand systems engineering principles and best practices

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university

  • Students must be graduating between 12/2025 - 6/2026 and seeking full-time roles following that graduation.

  • Strong skills in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio

  • Ability to work in a highly collaborative team environment

  • Strong organization skills, detail oriented, and self-initiative
