The Sarasota County Fire Department is growing and excited to announce a new opportunity for a Community Risk Reduction Coordinator (Business Professional III). This new position will help shape and lead the department’s community risk reduction efforts — programs designed to make our community safer and stronger. From smoke alarm installations and CPR training to youth fire safety initiatives and public education events, this position plays an essential role in keeping Sarasota County residents informed, prepared, and protected.

About the Position

In this role, you will be responsible for...

Community Risk Reduction Functions

• Oversee and manage community risk reduction programs such as smoke alarm installations, safety education, CPR training, open houses, and youth fire safety initiatives.

• Supervise, train, and mentor assigned staff to ensure high-quality service delivery.

• Use data analysis and performance measures to evaluate outcomes and improve community safety efforts.

• Collaborate with internal teams and partner organizations to coordinate and enhance community outreach programs.

• Seek and manage grant opportunities to expand services and resources.

• Represent the department at community events, meetings, and educational programs.

• Work with the Public Information Officer to promote risk reduction initiatives across various media platforms.

• Prepare reports, plans, and other documents related to community risk reduction programs and performance.

• Develop and manage program budgets and leverage technology for scheduling, logistics, and data tracking.

Support Functions

• Contribute to strategic planning, budgeting, and performance management initiatives within the department.

• Coordinate with data analysts and GIS professionals to create reports and performance tools that guide decision-making.

• Facilitate communication between internal teams and external agencies for effective data management and reporting.

• Identify and implement process improvements to support continuous quality improvement.

• Maintain current knowledge of laws, regulations, and standards related to community risk reduction.

• Develop systems for tracking and reporting departmental performance metrics.

• Prepare and distribute internal communications, bulletins, and reports as needed.

About the Schedule

Work Hours:

• Full-time, 40 hours per week.

• Typical Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

About You

To be considered for this role, you must have the following:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Public Administration, Emergency Management, Fire Science, Business Administration, Planning, Communications, or a job-related field with 3 years of professional job-related experience.

• OR: Master's degree in an accredited college or university in a related field with 2 years of professional job-related experience.

• OR: 7 years of professional job-related experience in management of technical projects/programs and strategic planning may substitute for the required education.

• Florida Fire and Life Safety Educator certification or be willing to obtain within 1 year of hire. (We can help with this!)

• Valid Florida driver's license wi
