About the role
Our partner in Hicksville, NY is currently seeking a Principal Staff Engineer Technical for their location in Hicksville, NY. This role involves performing electromagnetic transient studies for the LIPA transmission system, focusing on inverter-based resources, HVDC, and FACTS devices.
Responsibilities:
- Develop in-house capability for Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) model development.
- Organize, review, and maintain model updates and documentation.
- Implement model validation practices to ensure accuracy of EMT models.
- Perform complex EMT studies for transmission and distribution systems as needed.
- Conduct various transient studies for interconnecting resources and devices.
- Utilize EMT study models to assess potential solutions for system performance.
- Collaborate with Transmission and Distribution Planning, providing support in EMT study areas.
- Ensure compliance with NERC reliability standards through EMT studies.
- Engage with consultants to understand transient performance of the transmission system.
- Actively participate in working groups, universities, and utilities to understand control concepts.
- Research and collaborate with industry experts to implement best modeling and study practices.
- Develop methodology to model and interpret analysis using simulation tools.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 6 years of experience in Transmission Planning or Transmission Protection Engineering.
- Thorough understanding of power system analysis principles.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to travel for meetings, conferences, and trainings.
- Ability to respond to emergency storm conditions requiring fieldwork.
- Desired skills: Two years of experience with EMT software tools, experience in PSS/E data conversion, Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or PE License.
