Walmart is a multi-national, people-led, tech-powered omnichannel retailer with over 2.2 million associates. At CCaaS Platform, we’re at the forefront of designing and deploying Walmart’s next-generation Contact Center as a Service (CCaaS) platform. Our mission is to support all business functions while leveraging state-of-the-art AI and GenAI capabilities to enhance agent experience and productivity, empower customers with self-service options, and reduce average handle time in client-agent interactions. We are seeking a hands-on highly skilled and experienced Distinguished Software Engineer to join our team. In this individual contributor role, you will report directly to the Sr. Director of Engineering and GenAI. You will be responsible for leading the development of the multi-tenant Contact Center Platform and the innovative Machine Learning and Generative AI systems, as well as architecting enterprise-grade microservices, and pipelines.  This is an IC role with an expectation to be hands-on coding 80% of the time.

What you'll do: This is a vital role with significant growth potential. From day one, you will be expected to design, build, and deploy impactful systems that align with enterprise-level business and technology objectives. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Provide strategic and hands-on leadership in system architecture, distributed system design, and software engineering best practices, with a strong focus on AI-enabled platforms.
  • Lead the end-to-end design and implementation of mission-critical systems on Walmart’s native cloud architecture, ensuring reliability, security, and performance at enterprise scale.
  • Architect and build contact center platforms, including call routing, call distribution, callback orchestration, and real-time decisioning systems.
  • Design, implement, and govern API gateways and service-to-service integrations, enabling secure, scalable access across internal platforms and external partners.
  • Partner closely with Data Scientists, AI Engineers, Platform Engineers, Product Managers, and MLOps/DevOps teams to operationalize AI solutions, including deployment, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
  • Lead and mentor engineering teams through the design and implementation of complex, distributed, and AI-enabled systems, fostering technical excellence and ownership.
  • Ensure delivery of high-quality, resilient, and scalable systems that meet business goals, regulatory requirements, and customer experience expectations.
  • Actively participate in architectural reviews, design discussions, code reviews, and production troubleshooting, setting a high technical bar.
Promote a culture of accountability, inclusivity, and engineering excellence, balancing speed with long-term platform sustainability.
What you'll bring: Some of the skills needed for this role are but not limited to
  • Expert-level proficiency in programming languages such as Python or Java, with a strong track record of delivering high-performance, production-grade code for machine learning applications.
  • Deep experience in Linux-based development environments, along with containerization using Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes for scalable ML service deployment.
  • Proficiency in building and scaling API-based services and distributed systems, and in managing workflows using tools such as Apache Airflow or similar orchestration frameworks.
  • Strong working knowledge of SQL and modern data engineering practices, enabling seamless integration of ML pipelines with batch and streaming data sources.
