With 36 faculty and 18 fellows, the Division of Critical Care Medicine (CCM) has internationally recognized clinical, training, and research programs. With the highest volume pediatric intensive care unit in the Northeast, we have has specific programmatic expertise in the care of patients with neurologic and oncologic diseases (including stem cell transplant recipients), complex surgical conditions such as congenital diaphragmatic hernia and esophageal atresia, and solid organ transplant.

The Critical Care Coder Will:

• Specialize in Pediatric Critical Care coding, submit complex ICD-10 and CPT codes for the Medical-Surgical ICU (MSICU) for all patients within 48 hours of date of ser
• Establish and maintain working relationships with Critical Care Physicians and Administrators in order to resolve specific case issues, answer questions and provide guidance on principles.
• Develop billing reports and EMR templates to improve documentation and billing workflows. Develop procedural documentation and participate in quality and operational improvement processes.
• Analyze denials, review claims data, and monitor metrics for successful billing practices in Critical Care and report findings to Leadership on a monthly basis.
• Collaborate with our internal Compliance Department, Shared Service Center (SCC), and Anesthesia Foundation to resolve coding issues according to national standards through analysis of medical record documentation and use of standard coding rules.
• Participate in coding and reimbursement training programs. Provide instruction and education to staff on accurate charge entry and medical record documentation.
• Develop and maintain professional skills and up-to-date knowledge of regulatory and compliance issues related to Critical Care coding, documentation, and billing.
• Maintain credentials and certifications in accordance with CPC requirements.

To qualify you should have:

• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) certification required.
• High School Diploma / GED
• Minimum of 2 years of related experience in Physician coding with specific experience in Coding Validation and/or compliance review in an Anesthesia or Surgical setting. Pediatric coding experience required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, ICD-9/10-CM and CPT-4 or ASA classification systems, and regulatory agency requirements related to surgical specialties.
