Our Open Enrollment Programs have an extensive roster of over 800 courses over 50 program areas, 47 micro-courses in 12 program areas, and more than 110 certificates across a broad range of fields.

Your opportunity:

The Senior Database Administrator is part of team that develops, integrates, manages, and supports applications deployed at the School of Continuing Studies. Under the direction of the Director, Information Technology, the incumbent will join a vibrant team of information technology professionals dedicated to delivering high caliber IT solutions.

As the Senior Database Administrator, you will be responsible for database architecture, logical and physical design, automation, documentation, scripting, programming, backup & recovery concepts, and database performance and tuning.

You will be overseeing institutional data assets, data pipelines and the data environment. Ongoing oversight and change management of pipelines, and the integration of appropriate governance approaches and best practices is required.

 

This role is currently eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, pursuant to University policies and guidelines, including but not limited to the University of Toronto’s Alternative Work Arrangements Guideline.


Your responsibilities will include:

 

  • Analyzing, recommending and designing technical solutions for highly complex IT problems
  • Designing and optimizing databases. Administrating and configuring SCS SIS (Destiny One) and database as per School’s need
  • Planning and implementing security measures to safeguard database information
  • Planning and implementing tools and procedures to monitor database system performance
  • Developing database schemas and sub-schemas
  • Identifying and resolving systemic data integrity issues
  • Configure and maintain various enterprise application and their database
  • Leading and planning IT projects. Assess cost, feasibility and impact of different implementation solutions

 

Essential Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum eight years of experience working as a database administrator and ETL developer.
  • Experience working with both RDBMS (Microsoft SQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases. Experience in data modelling and query performance tuning on SQL Server, MySQL, and Azure/AWS platforms.
  • Experience working with large and complex data sets, as well as, experiencing analyzing volumes of data.
