Parker Poe is seeking a Legal Professional Assistant (LPA) for our Raleigh office to provide administrative support to attorneys.

The LPA will work a regular schedule as determined by the Office Administrator/HR and/or the assigned attorneys. The typical schedule will consist of 7.5 hours per day equating to 37.5 hours per week. Additional hours (including overtime) will be required on occasion.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
• Supports new client intake, opens new matters, and organizes client files.
• Composes or edits correspondence, legal documents, pleadings, leases, and contracts. Scans and converts documents.
• Manages attorney calendars and mail; answers phones and routes calls; schedules meetings; handles expense reports; and assists in meeting deadlines.
• Dockets court filing deadlines and scheduling orders.
• Maintains attorney time entry for billing purposes.
• Files correspondence and legal documents in electronic and paper filing systems. Ensures proper indexing and filing of legal documents.
• Manages and organizes attorneys’ contacts in database. Supports business development activities as needed. Coordinates travel arrangements.
• Adheres to all firm policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines. Maintains confidentiality.
• Other duties as assigned by the Office Administrator and/or the assigned attorneys.
Requirements:
• Five or more years of experience as a legal secretary or as an administrative assistant in a law firm or legal department and an Associate’s degree, or the equivalent combination of experience and education. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience supporting one or more of the following practice group(s) required:
◦ Litigation
◦ Insurance Defense
◦ Medical Malpractice
• Proficiency in federal Electronic Filing
• Proficiency in the use of document management systems (DMS) to capture, track and store electronic documents
• Advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with Adobe Acrobat
• Experience using a legal time and billing system
• Familiarity with electronic work flow systems preferred
• Excellent communication and time management skills
• Outstanding interpersonal and customer service skills
• Motivated, self-directed individual with ability to anticipate and resolve issues
• Ability to prioritize work projects and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment
• Must be a team player, willing to help other team members during peak times
