JOB TITLE SUMMARY

Job Title: Pilates Instructor, Independent Contractor

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 1 hour per week

Job Assignment: August 25th, 2025 – May 8th, 2026

Rate of Pay: $50 per hour

Job Summary

The Pilates instructor, independent contractor is responsible for leading Pilates classes for students, faculty, and staff at Lindenwood University. The instructor will create a welcoming and inclusive environment, ensuring that all participants can safely and effectively engage in Pilates exercises.

Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators

Job Responsibilities

  • Coordinates with Campus Recreation staff regarding scheduling, invoicing, and class curriculum
  • Plans and conducts Pilates classes that cater to various skill levels, from introductory to advanced
  • Demonstrates proper techniques and forms to ensure the safety and effectiveness of exercises
  • Provides modifications and progressions to accommodate different fitness levels and physical limitations
  • Maintains a clean and organized workout space, ensuring all equipment is kept in good condition
  • Fosters a positive and motivational atmosphere that encourages participants to achieve their fitness goals
  • Stays updated with the latest Pilates techniques and trends to provide high-quality, relevant instruction
  • Adheres to all University policies and procedures, including those related to health and safety

Job may require other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications – An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.

  • Certification in Pilates instruction from a recognized organization (e.g., Pilates Method Alliance, STOTT Pilates, etc.)
  • Previous experience teaching Pilates classes, preferably in a university or similar setting
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities – May be representative, but not all inclusive, of the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform this job competently.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures
  • Strong knowledge of human anatomy and physiology as it relates to Pilates
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to motivate and inspire participants of all fitness levels

  • Recreation/fitness center setting with classes held in the Group Exercise Room in Evans Commons Recreation Center
  • Evenings and weekends may be required
  • Fully On-Ground
