The Accounting Manager will perform key activities related to the monthly closing cycle, including investment reconciliations, supporting schedules for Premiums, Agents Balance, insurance companies’ taxes and various journal entries. This position reports to the SVP of Finance and interacts with other Finance, FP&A, Tax, and Internal Audit team members. This position is also key in the preparation of the quarterly and annual statutory financial statements and will also participate in process improvement initiatives designed to create efficiencies, enhance controls, promote corporate governance, and provide business intelligence.

Duties, responsibilities, and qualifications:

  • Run and/or reconcile system reports utilized in the monthly closing cycle

  • Reconcile agents balance accounts, premium receivable transactions, and book journal entries for all states

  • Prepare/update schedule of written\earned\unearned Premiums and book journal entries for all states

  • Reconcile investment bank accounts/portfolios and review investment reports for accuracy

  • Review accounting transactions booked by investment services provider and timely communicate/resolve any discrepancies

  • Prepare additional non-recurring investment and other journal entries

  • Review/approve various bank reconciliations prepared by Staff or Senior Accountant (premium deposits, commissions, and premium refunds accounts)

  • Prepare EOM accrual entries (A/P and payroll) for insurance companies 

  • Fulfill external auditor's requests related to premiums, agents balances and investments

  • Prepare various quarterly and Annual Statement report pages and supporting documents

  • Complete various regulatory federal government and state reports/filings

  • Prepare investment and/or other supporting schedules for the SEC 10-Q and 10-K filings

  • Prepare or review STAT to GAAP investments journal entries when needed

  • Prepare or review insurance company's STAT to GAAP tax journal entries when needed

  • Experience working with general ledger and consolidation applications

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications (Excel, Word, Outlook)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in Accounting

  • 5+ years of accounting/managerial experience

  • Experience preparing Annual Statement pages

  • Knowledge of STAT and GAAP accounting concepts

  • Prior insurance accounting experience preferred

  • Prior reinsurance accounting experience is a plus
