Environmental Compliance Engineer – Air Quality

In this position... 

• This key role supports Ford's environmental air quality compliance and sustainability efforts across its U.S. and Canadian facilities (manufacturing, engineering, support). 
• You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure air quality regulatory compliance, develop and implement compliance tools using AI and other available technologies, engage in air permitting efforts for construction and operation at facilities, and develop and implement regulatory guidance and policy for new or changing environmental regulations. 
• In this role, you'll be not only be developing air quality compliance tools and regulatory policy but implementing within Ford’s Environmental Operating System and at the facility level. 

What you'll do...

• Play a key role in preparing or assisting in air permit evaluations including development of applications for both construction and operating permits, permit exemption justifications, and other necessary supporting information.
• Act as North American lead for the Paint Emissions Reporting System (PERS) to address data concerns, report generation; entering of new testing, material, or vehicle data; and problem solving for Ford’s U.S. and Canadian assembly plants.
• Use AI and other compliance tools to identify emission trends, data gaps, and other compliance points to aid in identifying potential compliance concerns before non-compliance occurs.
• Support the North American activities under Ford’s Global Regulatory Deployment Process (GRPD) for new or changing air quality regulations through development or updating of Ford regulatory communications, guidance documents, and training programs.
• Act as Ford lead on the preparation and submittal of Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) reports to U.S. EPA for all U.S. facilities including development or updating of guidance on regulatory changes for affected chemicals, releases, and other updates.
• Serve as lead for implementation and use of Ford’s corporate refrigerant service tracking database for U.S. facilities.
• Prepare or guide program teams or facilities in preparation of air emission calculations including potential-to-emit, project or program emissions, annual emission inventories, emission factor selection, and other emission calculations.
• Represent Ford in facility environmental matters through interaction with regulatory departments, industry trade groups, professional organizations, non-governmental organizations, other OEMs, and the local community establishing trusted partnerships through transparent communications.
• Influence the development of new air quality environmental regulations through collaboration with various trade associations and regulatory agency workgroups and implementation through Ford’s regulatory deployment process.
• Engage in planning discussions for new programs and products through support of manufacturing and non-manufacturing program teams for air quality concerns.
• Support the Ford Global Environmental Operating System (EOS) and ISO14001 Global Group Certification initiatives.

You'll have... 

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent. (Successful candidates will be required to provide proof of degree completion for the highest level of education attained.
• Minimum of 5 years of manufacturing experience.
• Thorough knowledge and experience with environmental regulations relating to air quality.
• Demonstrated ability to adapt and effectively respond to multiple demands, ambiguity, shifting priorities, and rapid change.
• Ability to interface and communicate effectively with all levels of management.

• Graduate/Master’s degree.
• Experience with automotive painting and VOC emission abatement.
• Experience with air quality emission inventories and permit application development.
• Experience with U.S. or Canadian refrigerant requirements including appliance service and refrigerant replacement requirements.
