Job Description Qualifications:

The Boeing Company is looking for a Lead Modeling and Simulation Software Engineer to join our team in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

This position will support the growing Delphi program and will lead a team of developers to support Mod & Sim-based test and training capabilities for Satellite Digital Twins and Space Battle Management Command, Control, and Communications (BMC3) programs.

We seek a self-driven person who enjoys being a leader and innovator; offering the opportunity to work directly with customers in defining the Modeling and Simulation framework to support the future of wargaming, testing, training, exercises, and operational system performance and behavior. 

The successful candidate combines a passion for Modeling and Simulation system design with a proven track record for designing and implementing open framework architectures.  This is a key leadership position which supports Research and Development efforts, customer programs, and a large number of Boeing platform programs being developed for the United States Space Force.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Work with the chief architect to lead a full-stack team of developers to define and develop a modeling & simulation platform for Space System Digital Twins and their ground systems
  • Partner with systems engineering to perform analyses and optimize the ModSim design
  • Implement ModSim services within a Container based system design leveraging open standards, micro-services, and model-based engineering tools
  • Oversee system-level integration and validation
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for software domains, system-specific issues, processes and regulations.
  • Track and evaluate software team and supplier performance to ensure product and process conformance to project plans and industry standards (e.g. test coverage, automated testing, software documentation, etc.)
  • Perform planning, tasking, and backlog management
  • Perform code reviews
  • Handle merge requests
  • Oversee software testing
  • Work collaboratively with the DevSecOps team and release train engineer to oversee builds, releases, deployments and implement process improvements
  • Train and mentor junior and mid-level software engineers

This position is expected to be 100% onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires an active U.S. Top Secret/SCI Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience developing distributed simulations using Distributed Interactive Simulation (DIS), High Level Architecture (HLA), or similar
  • 1+ years experience working in an Agile Environment utilizing Atlassian Suite (Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, etc.) and GitLab
  • 1+ years experience with satellite subsystems, satellite command and control
  • Ability to lead a small team of software developers confidently and efficiently through entire software lifecycle
  • Strong critical thinking, decision making, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • 1+ years experience with multiple programming languages and frameworks: Java, C++, Python, Angular/React

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Advanced Framework for Simulation, Integration and Modeling (AFSIM) or other M&S framework
  • Experience with developing cloud-based web applications

Typical Education/Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 14 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+9 years' related work experience, Master+12 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
