Data Engineer Internship
12-week summer internship starting in June 2025

Primary Job Purpose:
The Data Engineer Intern will work side by side with Cambia’s Platform Technology team on various automation initiatives in the areas of data engineering ecosystem including ETL, data pipeline orchestration, CI/CD, and AI with the primary aim to accelerate our ability to deliver business value using Cambia’s Snowflake Data Platform. This role combines hands-on learning with real-world application of various Data Engineering Technologies, such as development of SQL based solutions, transforming data with DBT, orchestrating workloads using Apache Airflow, building/utilizing Python based APIs to integrate with third party web services, as well as automating deployment of such solutions using CI/CD tools like Circle CI or Gitlab runners. This position provides exposure to Cambia’s enterprise-level data engineering technology stack allowing one to develop skills in Snowflake core products, and various AWS services.
Responsibilities:
With minimal supervision can evaluate either open-source software solutions of vendor products within Snowflake ecosystem that can lead to departmental increase in productivity and/or reduction of cloud compute costs
Researches and evaluates relevant Snowflake product features as they relate to day-to-day data engineering work
Assist in developing and testing of our data orchestration pipelines utilizing Apache Airflow
Help build Snowflake data replication and cloning capabilities
Assists in developing and testing of various ETL pipelines
Documents findings and creates proof-of-concept demonstrations
Participates in team discussions and contributes to solution design
Helps identify AI Agent solutions for data access management capabilities
Assist in building CI/CD pipelines to automate data engineering code deployment
Collaborates with team members on various Data Engineering Projects
Minimum Requirements:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Basic understanding of software engineering, data analysis, and business intelligence concepts
Eagerness to learn new technologies and approaches
Effective written and verbal communication abilities
Basic to intermediate programming or scripting knowledge (SQL, Python, Python Pandas, YAML, Bash, Snowflake, Streamlit, Sigma, python based micro services, AWS)
Familiarity with data modeling concepts (i.e. Kimbal)
Familiarity with Retrieval Augmented Generation concepts
Ability to predict cost of compute across proposed execution steps
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong attention to detail and organization skills
Previous exposure of working on building scalable data solutions that apply best data structures and algorithms principles
Normally to be proficient in the competencies listed above:
The ideal candidate would be pursuing either master’s or bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Information Systems, Data Science, Business Analytics, or related field, with completion of at least 1 year of undergraduate studies. No prior work experience required, but demonstrated interest in Data Engineering, AI, and analytics through coursework or personal projects is preferred.
Work Environment:
Work primarily performed in a hybrid environment.
Must reside in Portland, Oregon the entire duration of this internship.
May be required to work outside of normal hours.
The base salary range is $32 - $40/hour, depending on experience.
