We are seeking an Associate Scientist I with previous experience, and specializing in, cell culture of mammalian cells. The candidate will play an important role on our dynamic Research and Development team by performing cell culture of established cell lines for multi-omic analysis.  The ideal team member will culture and propagate mammalian cells and perform fixation and permeabilization. The prepared cells will be used in experiments to develop Element’s cutting edge multi-omic platform. The candidate will work closely with the team to forecast and deliver cultured cells to meet the needs of the program. This role will report to our Staff Scientist, Biochemistry and will be a San Diego based role.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine cell culture activities, including but not limited to, media ordering and preparation, subculturing, passaging, and harvesting of mammalian cell lines
  • Maintaining cell lines in optimal condition by monitoring growth characteristics, viability, and contamination levels
  • Execute sterile technique procedures to ensure the integrity and purity of cell cultures
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment essential for cell culture, such as biosafety cabinets, CO2 incubators, and microscopes
  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation of experimental procedures, observations, and results in compliance with required documentation for the project
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to forecast for and support various research streams
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new cell culture techniques and methodologies to enhance robustness and consistency

Education and Experience:

  • BS or MS in Biological Sciences, Cell Biology, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience in academia or industry culturing mammalian cells
  • Proficiency in sterile technique and aseptic handling of cell cultures
  • Strong organizational skills and record keeping to work efficiently in a fast paced environment
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in experimental methods and record keeping

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
  • Frequently moves boxes weighing up to 20 pounds

Base Compensation Pay Range:

  • $80,000 - $96,000



In addition to base compensation noted above, you will be eligible for stock options, discretionary annual bonus, no cost health insurance plans, 401k with company match, and flexible paid time off.
