SUMMARY
The material handler loads, unloads, and moves materials within or near plant or work site by performing the following duties.
Successful applicants will be required to join the Litho Division of the Local 14-M of the Graphic Communications Conference of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters District Council 9 within 30 days of date of hire. Starting rate including shift differential is currently $24.73 per hour.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following, other duties may be assigned:
Performs a combination of the following duties to move material within plant and warehouse operations to keep packaging lines running:
Unloads trucks using a forklift and receives raw material shipments from suppliers into our MFG/PRO inventory, and puts away in the AS-RS system using the AIM warehouse management system.
Generates and applies bar code labels to raw material and finished product pallets and puts away in the AS-RS system.
Reviews work orders to determine the products to be run during the day and the related materials necessary.
Checks supplies and stocks production lines with products and packaging materials as required at the beginning of each shift to allow production lines to run.
Restocks production lines throughout the day as necessary.
Removes finished product from production lines and transports to appropriate location in warehouse for storage and/or shipment.
Removes trash from packaging line and transports to dumpster.
Operates shrink wrap machine.
Maintains inventory and log of materials and products on hand, used and checked by Quality Control.
Loads finished goods pallets onto trucks using forklifts to fulfill customer shipments.
Contacts main warehouse to order additional materials and products as needed, and pulls materials for production or shipment via AIM warehouse management system.
Performs computer transactions in MFG/PRO via computer terminal or RF equipment.
Products packaged include vitamins and pharmaceuticals.
Packaging materials include corrugated paper, paperboard, foil, and vinyl.
Most material and products are palletized and transported by hand or electric powered pallet jack.
May use forklift to remove pallets of material from racks, floor locations, or AS-RS system.
May use other material handling equipment such as wheeled carts, wheeled bins, and handcarts.
May restock pallet loads that have fallen.
May secure finished product to pallet, using strapping to shrink wrap to prevent damage during shipping.
Reads work order or follows oral instructions to ascertain materials or containers to be moved.
Opens containers.
Conveys materials from storage or work sites to designated area.
Attaches identifying tags or labels to materials or marks information on cases or other containers.
Stacks or assembles materials into bundles and bands bundles together.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one on one setting. Ability to read, write and understand verbal instructions in English.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
