Hatch is currently seeking a highly motivated Junior Rail Vehicle Mechanical Engineer to join our Infrastructure Vehicle Mechanical Engineering group in our Brooklyn, NY office.

In this role, the ideal candidate is a mechanical engineer with excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment. Candidates must have knowledge of core mechanical engineering concepts. Some experience working in the rail industry is a bonus. An FE registration is desirable but not required.
This position will report to the Resource Director, Vehicle Mechanical Engineering - Northeast
As the successful candidate, you will:
- Assist in the review design submittals, and the preparation of detailed review findings
- Participate in technical working sessions to address issues raised by clients
- Prepare technical briefs, presentations and reports that identify work progress, defects/non-conformances, and areas of concern
- Witness electro-mechanical equipment undergoing qualification testing, including shock and vibration, environmental, and functional testing
- Assist with the conduct forensic investigation of failed components and equipment and reporting findings under the direction of senior staff
- Develop technical specifications for mechanical equipment
- Participate in quality assurance and manufacturing audits under the direction of senior staff
- Provide engineering support as required
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- A minimum of 2-5 years of mechanical engineering experience
- Basic knowledge of electro-mechanical and structural engineering
- Familiarity with mechanical engineering: kinematics and dynamics, stress analysis, materials, design of mechanical components and systems.
- Excellent analytical, written, and oral communication skills
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills, work well within a team, take direction from other senior staff members, the ability to multi-task while meeting deadlines
- Valid driver license (travel to various domestic and international sites required)
- Experience with Autodesk and AutoCAD software, SolidWorks, 3D modeling
The following skills/experience are a plus:
- Basic programming skills
- Experience of Finite Element (ANSYS or Equivalent) Software
- Rapid prototyping / 3D printing
