About the Role
The Staff Accountant is responsible for preparing and maintaining financial records to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities. This role involves performing general cost accounting duties, maintaining the general ledger, and ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The Staff Accountant will also be responsible for coordinating with external auditors, filing tax forms, and managing the purchasing and invoicing systems.
A successful individual will be detail-oriented, demonstrate exceptional organizational and communication skills, act tactically, write effectively, and display strong analytical and critical thinking skills. Our ideal candidate must be able to thrive in a fast-paced multitasking environment, who easily adapts positively to change and rapid company growth.
This role is expected to work in our office in the Financial District of Lower Manhattan, NYC for at least four (4) days a week.
Key Responsibilities
- General Accounting: Perform general cost accounting and related duties for the organization, including preparing monthly balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
- Ledger Maintenance: Maintain the general ledger by coding invoices, setting up new accounts, reconciling accounts, and closing the monthly books.
- Bank Reconciliation: Reconcile bank accounts at least monthly, verify deposits, and address inquiries from banks.
- Account Reconciliation: Reconcile cash disbursement accounts, payroll, customer accounts, and other financial accounts; manage accounts receivable collections.
- Accounts Payable: Verify and/or complete the payment of invoices associated with accounts payable, ensuring payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
- Audit Support: Provide assistance to outside auditors by gathering necessary account information and documents to perform the annual audit.
- Tax Compliance: File tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
- Software Coordination: Coordinate with software vendors to maintain accounting software systems and recommend updates to enhance the accounting software.
- Purchasing and Invoicing: Manage the purchasing and invoicing system, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
