Cleveland Clinic Weston Hospital is looking to add a Medical Technologist to their Blood Bank Lab. A caregiver in this position will perform and interpret tests at all levels of complexity. This caregiver will demonstrate an understanding of the theory and scientific principles of laboratory testing, as well as the technical, procedural and problem-solving aspects. A caregiver in this role should maintain a questioning attitude, searching to find results to best determine patient care. We will hire our clinical laboratory testing personnel in three different job titles, based on educational background: 

  • Medical Technologist 

  • Med Lab Technician 

  • Lab Technician 

A caregiver in this role works an evening/night rotation from 10:00 p.m. – 6:30 a.m. or 2:00 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. with on-call requirements and rotating weekends.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Conduct quality laboratory testing and result reporting in compliance with the goals and standards of the department, hospital and applicable accrediting organizations (AHCA, CLIA, COLA, and JCAHO). 

  • Accurately identify each patient specimen and testing orders. 

  • Ensure specimen integrity and identification and resolve specimens not meeting testing criteria. 

  • Identify and resolve pending specimen results from laboratory information system for assigned departments. 

  • Report pertinent information to the physician, patient care area or supervisor (e.g., panic values, instrument malfunctions, delay in testing, reagent or supply depletion). 

  • Note “dates opened” and “expiration dates” on reagents, controls etc. 

  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas and keep work areas stocked. 

  • Follow safety procedures and utilize all safety devices and personal protective equipment per protocol. 

  • Follow troubleshooting procedures to correct deficiencies or problems as they occur with instruments and equipment. 

  • Perform maintenance checks, start-ups and shutdowns. 

  • Answer the telephone, greet customers and provide consultation and technical support to the physicians, phlebotomists and nursing staff. 

  • Document quality control and out of range results. 

Minimum qualifications for the ideal caregiver include: 

  • Associate’s Degree in Chemical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Medical Technology or equivalent  

  • Licensed in the State of Florida at the technologist levels 

  • One or more specialties in Microbiology, Immunohematology or all licenses 

  

Preferred qualifications for the ideal caregiver include: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Sciences, Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences and Medical Technology 

  • American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) certification 

  • One year of clinical experience
