The ISR & Space Systems business is seeking a Principal Product Engineer at their Rockford, IL location with knowledge of electro-mechanical products and in auxiliary power and/or mechanical actuation products. Additionally they will be an independent worker requiring minimal oversight, have excellent attention to detail and the creativity to provide innovative solutions to complex manufacturing issues.
Position will work primarily onsite in Rockford, IL. This position may be eligible for relocation assistance.
What You Will Do
- Key responsibilities include overseeing and providing technical review of production builds on the shop floor
- Reviewing hardware to determine needed reworks and repairs for used hardware, and analyzing and interpreting required hardware specifications
- Identify potential fabrication problems
- Draw attention to special fabrication requirements
- Ensures the proposed design is within the allowable cost
- Establish touch labor cost targets on shop/lab activities as requested
- Provide the necessary input and support to the tool design group
- Ensure adequate tools and gages are available when needed in the process
- Provide support to all activities during the fabrication of the initial unit (first article) of each specific design to resolve processing problems
- Review and implement engineering changes to determine feasibility, producibility and delta labor impact
- Determine, implement and lead process improvement opportunities, business unit initiatives and corrective actions
Qualifications You Must Have
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience
- U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract
Qualifications We Prefer
- Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline (Industrial, Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical etc) with 5-10 years of experience
- Pro E or AutoCad Experience or equivalent software design package preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Working knowledge of the SAP or similar Enterprise Requirements Planning system preferred
- Experience in ACE Toolset and/or Lean Manufacturing
- Experience in 3P events, Value Stream Mapping events, and Process Certification is preferred
