Description
The Chair, Department of Pharmacy: Clinical and Administrative Sciences provides leadership and critical day-to-day operational support for more than 20 faculty members and staff. The Chair represents the department in relations with other departments, with the deans, with other administrative officers of the University, OU Health pharmacy, and with affiliated institutions. The Chair is expected to encourage and facilitate the work, quality, professional development, and advancement of the department. The Chair is the immediate supervisor of faculty within the department and is expected to maintain a high standard of performance and to ensure that department personnel comply with University, Health Sciences, college, and departmental policies. The Chair has a fundamental responsibility for obtaining merited recognition of faculty and supporting their career development. The Chair provides leadership in all matters of policy as determined by the faculty, dean, and Senior Vice President and Provost.
Responsibilities include:
- Establishing internal and external procedures and communication methods to advance the work of the department, in conjunction with the Vice Chair and with accountability to both the department and the Dean.
- Providing leadership and management for departmental initiatives and operations in relation to college and University Strategic Plans.
- Fostering a collaborative and transparent environment within the department.
- Providing oversight and support for didactic, experiential, and post-graduate curricula, including workload assignments, course development, mentoring of course coordinators, approval of course schedules, assessment, and other related activities.
- Creating summaries for program reviews and making recommendations for teaching methods.
- Collaborating with the Pharmaceutical Sciences Department Chair as needed.
- Collaborating with and mentoring the PCAS Vice-Chair.
- Collaborating across campus to promote core missions within research, education, and service, including our health system partner, OU Health, to identify and implement intentional integration opportunities for department faculty, students, and post-graduate trainees.
- Developing clinical, teaching, and service partnerships with campus and external healthcare organizations and providers in conjunction with the Associate Dean for Professional and Interprofessional Programs and the Dean.
- Managing the department budget and operations.
- Establishing and implementing policies and procedures for approval of expenditures from the departmental budget.
- Recommending increases in salary, promotion/tenure, new appointments, and adjustments for faculty and staff.
- Supporting faculty recognition and development through campus and other appropriate mechanisms.
- Offering, organizing, or identifying professional development for department faculty in addition to providing mentoring to faculty members.
- Recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and mentoring clinical faculty members as well as funded researchers in the clinical and administrative sciences according to program needs and strategic initiatives.
- Engaging in teaching, scholarship and service in areas of expertise and interest.
- Advising the Dean on matters internal and external to the campus related to the Department and Departmental interactions.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates from any pharmacy practice or pharmacy administration discipline will be considered. Qualified applicants will hold a Doctor of Pharmacy, Ph.D. in Pharmacy Administration, or other terminal degree. Eligibility for licensure in the state of Oklahoma is required. Candidates should have a record of excellence in academic teaching, scholarship, and service which will qualify for the rank of Professor.
