1. Prepares the patient and treatment area for the administration of procedures and therapy.
- Transports patient to and from Physical Therapy Department.
- Assists patient with admission process.
- Prepares the patient and necessary equipment for the prescribed Physical Therapy treatment.
- Ensures that the treatment area is clean and uncluttered prior to taking patient to treatment area.
- Assists patient with positioning.
- Prepares treatment equipment.
- Educates patient on Physical Therapist’s daily plan.
2. Assist with day-to-day wellness center functions.
- Accurately reviews all client paperwork as part of membership or program participation.
- Assists in teaching safe and effective use of equipment and exercises, providing appropriate modifications and options.
- Assists in explaining exercise programs to achieve optimal health outcomes.
- Maintains facility security and safety and reporting of equipment/facility maintenance problems.
- Maintains cleanliness of facility and equipment.
- Responsible for opening and/or closing facility.
3. Perform patient care related activities to support effective therapy care.
- Assists Physical Therapist or Physical Therapy Assistant with treatment as directed.
- Initiates patient’s treatment when a plan of care is already established (indicated by therapist).
- Assists the Physical Therapist or Physical Therapy Assistant in positioning patients, administering treatments and supporting patients during ambulation and gait training.
- Assists patients during treatments and informs the Physical Therapist or Physical Therapy Assistant of any patient distress or malfunctioning equipment.
- Seeks clarification of duties when indicated.
4. Assists with implementation of safe and effective exercise programs by utilizing established policy/procedures to assure achievement of goals for improved functional ability, prevention of deleterious effects, and weight loss.
- Assists with initial orientation of clients.
- Works directly with clients regarding programming and customer service.
- Assists in the process of selling new program services and programs.
5. Performs various clerical duties to support effective department operations.
- Answers telephones, makes appointments and files.
- Ensure that charts are current with health care provider referrals, progress notes and communications.
- Prepares daily charge sheets, collects and ensures accuracy.
- Completes and corrects scheduling information.
- Completes requisition forms for department supplies, equipment, and repairs as necessary.
- Ensures all files have referral forms (plan of care) signed by the health care provider for the appropriate treatments.
- Monitors and orders office supplies as needed.
- Offers assistance and/or instruction to co-workers when necessary. Extends courtesy and consideration for others in interpersonal relationships.
- Back up to Receptionist-Patient Registration.
6. Prepares and uses necessary equipment.
- Inventories and requisitions adaptive equipment and all other supplies needed.
- Utilizes space and equipment in cooperation with other staff.
7. Communicates effectively.
- Identifies and recognizes abnormal symptoms/changes in patient condition, established priorities, and takes appropriate action. Appropriately reports condition changes to Physical Therapist or appropriate provider.
- Communicates and collaborates effectively with other health team members regarding patient condition, patient satisfaction needs and recommendations for meeting identified outcomes.
8. Performs and maintains documentation.
- Documents and reports accurate and ongoing assessments of clients to personal training staff.
9. Promotes and ensures patient and staff safety in all aspects of responsibilities.
- Utilizes proper body mechanics, transfer/lifting techniques to minimize fall risk to patient and injury to self.
- Implements infectious disease controls as appropriate including isolation procedures, proper use of hand washing and gloves.
10. Performs other duties as assigned.
