The Disciplinary Hearing Officer is directly responsible to the Executive Director of School Operational Effectiveness & Support and the Coordinators of Student Conduct, Prevention, Intervention & Family Support and as is responsible for conducting disciplinary hearings.
The Disciplinary Hearing Officer shall:
- Be an independent decision maker appointed by the Board of Education to hear student disciplinary matters for the purpose of determining whether or not a student has violated a rule and/or policy of the Board of Education of Henry County, when the matter may result in a long-term suspension or expulsion.
- Conduct due process student disciplinary hearings in an orderly and professional manner, following all rules, regulations, and applicable laws.
- Compile and submit disciplinary hearing evidence and records.
- Meet on a regular basis with the Coordinators of Conduct, Prevention, Intervention and Family Support for the purpose of maintaining communication and clarity in areas related to student disciplinary hearings.
- Attend professional growth opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Be in good standing with the State Bar of Georgia, or have experience as a teacher, counselor, or administrator in a public school system, or be actively serving as a hearing officer under an existing contract/agreement with a Georgia school system provided that such individual completes the tribunal training course within 6 months of July 1 of the given year.
- Ability to perform professionally under stressful and confrontational situations.
- Ability to work well with students, parents, staff, and community.
- Ability to be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
- Ability to perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
- Ability to perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to maintain highly confidential information in a professional manner.
- Ability to make fair and impartial decisions based on the evidence presented.
- Possess high integrity, excellent character, and good professional reputation.
- Abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
- Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
