Data Migration Engineer

Job Description

Applied Systems, Inc., a worldwide leader in insurance technology, is currently searching for a Data Migration Engineer.  This role will be responsible for developing and executing Applied Epic custom form conversion projects as well as executing data migration initiatives. This hybrid role demands strong technical expertise in programming and data management, attention to detail, excellent communication skills, and effective time management to handle multiple concurrent projects.  As a key member of the data migration team, the candidate will perform data extractions, data merges, data mapping, migration programming and data cleanup/quality services. The role will involve interaction with various internal technical and business teams supporting migration projects, including Services, Development, Operations and Support.

 

What You’ll Do

Technical Development & Programming:

• NET Development: Write and maintain code in VB.NET to build and enhance our custom form solutions. Ability to develop XML and JSON imports via API’s and SOAP services is essential.
• SQL Development: Lead and participate in data conversion and data migration from legacy systems to target SaaS product, producing sample and final deliveries using SQL tools.
• Data Mapping: Using the existing Applied Epic data model and external system data models, effectively map 1-1, 1-many, many-1 and many-many migration scenarios.
• Data Cleanup & Quality: Perform data extractions, acquisition merges, and cleanup services to ensure customer needs are met.

 

Project & Time Management:

• Multitasking Across Projects: Manage several custom/Epic form conversion projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks effectively and meeting all deadlines.
• Adaptability: Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure new systems satisfy user requirements and expectations while remaining adaptable to contingency project plans when rescheduling is required.

 

What You’ll Need to Succeed

We’re looking for someone who:

• Can work remote in the United States or Canada
• Travel is less than 10%

 

Your experience should include some or all the following:

• Proficiency in VB.NET programming.
• Experience with developing imports in XML and JSON format to web services including Rest API and SOAP.
• Experience with Visual Studio or other development environments. GITHUB/GITLAB is a plus.
• Intermediate knowledge in database structure and SQL skills and capabilities.
• Familiarity with ETL concepts.
• Proven ability in time management and juggling multiple projects concurrently.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in the areas of Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, Software Engineering, or related disciplines. Equivalent work experience will be considered (minimum 2-year SaaS data migration / ETL experience).

Additionally, you may have:

• Experience with Google Cloud Platform/Storage and BigQuery.
• Experience with Jira and SharePoint.
• Bilingual language skills in French.
• The role may require occasional direct client contact to ensure that all project requirements are met, and any issues are quickly addressed.
• A proactive approach to troubleshooting and problem resolution is highly valued.
