JOB SUMMARY: Principal Test Engineer is responsible for design and implementation of software based automated test systems. These automated test stands collect, record, and report data on RF devices under test (DUT) with various functionality. These RF devices range from amplifiers, switches and filters through full top level RF systems with FPGA and embedded software interfaces. The test engineer primarily develops software to interact with RF test equipment in an object-oriented programming environment.
The Principal Test Engineer is also a working manager who is responsible for leading the test engineering team, driving and refining the development process and expanding the capability of the team through mentorship and the development of junior engineers.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- Manage the schedule, resource allocation, and execution of test automation suites across multiple programs and sites.
- Work with cross functional RF, mechanical and digital teams to draft procedures, communicate with digital interfaces and design mechanical DUT interfaces for optimal testability.
- Architect scalable, reusable test automation systems, using common libraries and test equipment to improve engineering efficiency. In addition, write modular, reusable code using well-constructed software functions.
- Familiarity with Test Equipment such as Keysight Vector Network Analyzers (PNA Series, ENA Series), Spectrum Analyzers (PXA Series), Power Supplies, and Oscilloscopes. In addition, Familiarity with common RF performance specs such as gain, P1dB, noise figure, IP2, IP3 is required. Additional experience with phase noise, switching speed are a major plus.
- Familiarity with computer communication interfaces such as USB, Ethernet, Serial Port, and GPIB. As well as versed in National Instruments VISA Driver and toolset, and the IVI.
- Author test plans, test procedures and test reports.
- Conduct and present technical reviews to external customers and internal stakeholders
- Design and maintain software in C# using an object-oriented approach. Familiar with revision control tools such as GIT to revision control software releases.
- Ability to write technical reports and communicate with engineers, production personnel and customers.
- Mentor and manage junior engineers.
- Provide user training, documentation and support both internally and with customers where appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or computer engineering
- Experience: 4 to 10 years in RF test automation systems development, embedded systems development OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to obtain a secret clearance or currently hold an active security clearance.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- Ability to work in a fast paced, high energy engineering team working on cutting edge technology in the most extreme test environments.
- Majority of work hours on-site in Marlborough, MA with occasional remote work. Travel to Philadelphia, PA as needed up to 25%.
