Job Description:

General Description:

Under general supervision, interviews patients admitted to the hospital and obtains sufficient financial information to assure maximum payment for services rendered at OU Health.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assists patients or responsible parties with their financial liability on all past and present accounts and makes appropriate arrangements for payment.
  • Analyzes patient financial status and related information to determine if financial assistance may be available through other third party organizations.
  • Assures all updates to financial and demographic data are completed.
  • Interviews patients and responsible parties to obtain personal, demographic and financial information required for the registration of patients.
  • Serves as hospital systems intake to determine a method of payment according to established procedures.
  • Make pre-registration/pre-admission contacts with the patient or responsible party as appropriate.
  • Maintains statistical reports as required.
  • Obtains pre-certification and verification from any third party payors or employer.
  • Determines deposits and collects payments.
  • Serves as lead employee or assistant supervisor.

General Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High School Diploma or GED.

Experience: At least 5 years of experience in admitting, financial counseling, patient registration or related area required. 

Licensure/Certifications/Registrations Required: None required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  

  • Knowledge of hospital policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of third party contractual agreements and requirements
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws and regulations relating to payment and billing of hospital charges. 
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others
  • Skill in following verbal and written instructions; in interviewing patients
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing and good computer skills.
  • Typing/keyboarding skills sufficient to meet the requirements of the position.
