Postdoctoral Fellow – Translational Cancer Research Laboratory, Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine of Rowan University
Position Summary:
The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine of Rowan University is seeking a motivated and talented postdoctoral fellow to join our Translational Cancer Research Laboratory. This is a full-time position focused on translational cancer research in human and animals (One Health Research Initiative) using state-of-the-art techniques including but not limited to spectral flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, cancer drug screening, Western blot, PCR, gene knockdown assays, cancer mouse models, mammalian cell culture, and lipid, protein, and transcriptome profiling. Our laboratory focuses on uncovering dysregulated pathways in cancer cells and targeting these pathways to develop innovative cancer therapies for both humans and companion animals. The laboratory is housed within the state-of-the-art Joint Health Sciences Center (JHSC) in New Jersey. The JHSC shares its campus with Rutgers University, the Coriell Institute for Medical Research, and Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, offering exceptional opportunities for collaboration, interdisciplinary learning, and professional growth.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead and execute cancer research projects (explore dysregulated pathways in cancer cells and investigation of cancer therapies using in vitro and murine models), publish results in peer-reviewed journals, and present at conferences.
- Design and manage projects from conception to completion, including hypothesis development, collaboration coordination, and timeline/budget oversight.
- Mentor students, supervise lab operations, and train team members in various cancer research techniques.
- Contribute to grant writing and proposal development to secure research funding.
- Support teaching, student supervision, and departmental outreach activities.
Required Qualifications:
- The candidate should hold a Ph.D. or a combined D.V.M./M.D., Ph.D. degree, with a minimum of 1–3 years of laboratory experience in cancer and related fields.
- Previous working experience in BSL-2 labs and with lab animals is required.
- Strong background in molecular and cell biology, cancer proteomics and cell signaling, cancer therapy testing in cell systems and murine models.
- Hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture, cancer drug screening studies, flow cytometry, Western blotting, PCR, gene knockdown and overexpression in cells, immunohistochemistry and confocal microscopy, murine cancer models, and standard molecular biology techniques.
- Ability to troubleshoot and optimize experimental protocols for maximum efficiency, accuracy, and consistency.
- Expertise in areas such as lipidomic studies and bioinformatic analysis is especially helpful.
- Experience in lab management, including inventory, supply, and budget oversight.
- Strong work ethic, flexibility, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as evidenced by a solid track record of scientific manuscripts and presentations, and with the ability to collaborate effectively in a multidisciplinary research environment.
How to Apply:
Interested candidates should submit the following:
