The EHS&S and Facilities Manager is responsible for leading the focus on Environmental, Health, Safety & Sustainability (EHS&S) and Facilities management. The primary responsibility is to safeguard employee safety and enhance site-wide environmental sustainability through prevention and fostering a culture of care. This position ensures compliance with all EHS&S aspects of the site and aligns local strategies with corporate policies and practices to achieve world-class performance.
This position reports to the Plant Leader as part of the plant leadership team and participates with the BEC LS Global EHS&S team. This role is located in Indianapolis and will be on-site role with oversight responsibilities for the Lakeview facility (R&D, Lab).
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Coordinate daily management of EHS&S activities across the site, championing improvements and ensuring sustainment, and maintain/develop standard work to support site operations.
- Review plans and specifications for construction/installation of buildings and new equipment to ensure compliance with safe workplace requirements.
- Implement strategies that utilize proactive maintenance/EHS techniques and performance monitoring to detect early degradation and employ timely solutions to prevent failure.
- Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, ensure regulatory compliance and maintain productive relationships with vendors who perform maintenance services etc.
- Assess ergonomic conditions and environments to reduce the incidence of musculoskeletal conditions.
- Coach and mentor site-level associates on all aspects of EHS, collaborating with management to ensure adherence.
- Support DBS tools and build certified Lean practitioners within the facilities; lead Kaizen events to drive improvements.
The essential requirements of the job include:
- Bachelor's degree in Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Engineering, or related field with 9+ years EHS&S experience, including work in manufacturing operations, product engineering or R&D.
- Experience with manufacturing/laboratory operations/controlled processes along with 3+ years experience in Facilities (corporate building/functions).
- Strong technical understanding and approach to EHS&S issues as related to production/engineering/R&D and laboratory job functions and implementation of preventive EHS actions.
- Agile in communications with all site levels, and strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to drive positive results and communicate complex regulatory and technical issues in lay terms.
- Ability to work on-call as needed for emergent safety situations and security issues.
Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:
- Ability to travel up to 5% travel overnight as needed, training etc.
